Dense bookshelf

Compact Shelving was designed by Hans Ingold in Switzerland in the early 20th century. After nearly a century of development and evolution, the use of compact shelving has become more and more widespread, and today there are two different forms. One is a movable shelf made of metal, whose characteristic is that the axial (longitudinal) direction of the shelf and the track direction are perpendicular to each other. 

The other is made of wood, the axial direction of the shelf and the track is parallel, many domestic library audio-visual rooms are used to store audio-visual materials.

The main and obvious feature of the dense bookshelf is to save space for book collection. It will be placed closely together before and after the shelves, and then by the track to move the shelves, saving the shelves before and after the aisle space, so that in a limited space can be placed more books and materials. Due to the dense closeness of the shelves, it also makes it a place where books can be properly protected; in addition, it also increases the convenience of use and Gwen.

However, there are some disadvantages of dense shelving. First of all, the cost is too high, unless there is a more generous budget, it is not easy to have all the facilities (such as lighting and control facilities) of the dense bookshelves. The second is the safety of the shelves, which includes safety concerns for general use and during earthquakes. Due to technical improvements, the dense bookshelf has been changed from the earlier mechanical to electric operation, and the safety of users is very high as long as they follow the steps to operate. However, the safety of dense bookshelves during earthquakes (for books and people) is always difficult to fully grasp, and they are still vulnerable when a major earthquake comes.

Sliding shelves

The sliding shelves can be divided into two forms: manual and electric. Two special fixed, the middle shelf by the base rail, guide sliding, is one of the effective use of limited space to collect a large number of books.

Tree-shaped bookshelves

Venetian designer kostas syrtariotis presented his latest product "Tree Bookshelf" at the kidsroom zoom event at Milan Design Week 2011. The shelf, as the name suggests, is taken from the form of a tree, whose branches stretch out on the wall, allowing the user to place books or other small objects on the branches. The designer chose ebony and Ash wood panels as the material of choice, with a polished lacquer finish. The "tree bookcase" can be assembled in less than 10 minutes, and it can be placed against the wall and fixed with just two screws. The overall dimensions are 12cm high x 90cm long x 20cm wide.
